Goal & Purpose

This project was created as part of my exploration into 3D layers within a graphic design program. Inspired by the visual style of Minecraft, the goal was to create a dynamic 3D animation that brought the blocky, iconic elements of the game to life. The project served as an opportunity to delve deeper into 3D animation and better understand how layers can interact in a three-dimensional space.

Process

The project began with breaking down Minecraft's unique aesthetic and translating it into a 3D space. These illustrations were created in illustrator as flat images then brought over into a 3D space in after effects. I animated different elements, simulating movement and depth in a way that maintained Minecraft's blocky design while adding dynamic, interactive visual elements.

Summary

This project provided an in-depth introduction to working in a  3D environment. I learned how to position, animate, and render objects within a 3D space, experimenting with movement and field of view to enhance the depth of the animation. This experience strengthened my understanding of how to balance 3D with flat imagery when designing in this type of environment. I would like to revisit this project eventually and make each element actually 3D to make it more immersive.
